Moolmans’ staff compliment grows to 4712

Aveng Mining rebrands to Moolmans which encompasses of both underground and surface mining business.


Aveng Moolmans is accredited for the Integrated Management System which consists of ISO 14001:2015, ISO 9001:2015 and OSHAS 18001:2007

Awarded the Lefa, Guinea mining contract for the load and haul 15 million tonne / annum

Awarded the Karowe, Botswana mining services contract for the drill and blast, load and haul, re-handle 4 million bcm / annum

Awarded the Khuthala, South Africa mining services contract for drill and blast, load and haul, re-handle 7 million bcm / annum

Awarded the Gamsberg, South Africa for the drill, load and haul 12 million bcm / annum


Award of the Toparko Somita, Burkina Faso contract for the drilling, load and haul of 9 million tonne / annum.

The Phoenix Botswana contract for the production of 3 million tonnes per month - blast hole drilling and blasting, load and haul of waste and ore, re-handling of ore at the crusher and dewatering of the pits.

Vincent Matlala is appointed as HR Executive for Aveng Moolmans and by extension to the ExCo.


Trevor Naidoo is appointed as Finance Director and by extension to the ExCo and Aveng Moolmans’ Board.


Awarded the mining services contract of the Nkomati project, for the drill and blast, load and haul, re-handle 10 million bcm / annum

The following contracts were completed in 2014:

  • Iduapriem, Ghana

Short term planning, clear and grubbing, topsoil stripping, drilling, blasting and the loading, hauling and dumping of ore and waste operations.

  • Star & Comet (Geita), Tanzania

Load, haul and dump at a multiple open pit operation.

  • Siguiri, Guinea

Blast hole drilling and blasting, load and haul of waste and ore, re-handling of ore at the crusher in a blend of saprolites and laterites, and dewatering of the pits.


Awarded the mining services of Klipbankfontein Pit at Kolomela Iron Ore Mine (Northern Cape).

The Chimiwungo, Zamibia contract for the following services: full mining service including bush clearing, top soil stripping, drill and blast, and load and haul. In addition, re-handling of copper ore into the crusher determined our battery limit came to an end.

Kanshanshi (Zambia) contract for Plant Hire came to an end in 2013. Growth from 14 to 23 pieces of mining equipment occurred with the owning and operating of 18 100tn rigid dump trucks, 2 water bowsers, 2 dozers and a grader. Hauling of waste material, transfer of ore to the ROM pad, re-handling of stockpiles and additional day works projects.

Exceptional Safety Performance at Siguiri Gold Mine: Our Siguiri Operations achieved 3,747,900 million all injury free Man-hours as of March 2011 to December 2012.

Exceptional Safety Performance at Smaldeel Gold Mine: Our Smaldeel Mini-pit Operations achieved 607 712 thousand all injury free Man-hours for the calendar year 2012.

Our Safety Management System achieved re-certification to OHSAS 18001:2007 standard in November 2012.

Our Quality Management System achieved re-certification to ISO 9001:2008 standard in November 2012.



Smaldeel achieved 365 LTI Free Days. Well done to the team for their willingness to embrace key learning’s from significant incidents within Moolmans as well as other external significant incidents.

Aveng Moolmans Head Office Workshop was commended for achieving 365 LTI Free Days and for successfully implementing our PTW System especially with Hot Work, Working at Heights and Lifting Activities.

Karibib Mining and Contruction Co. (Namibia) Limited- Langer Heinrich Uranium Mine was announced the winner of NOSA's International Competition Sector C1 and will also be receiving their first NOSCAR. Individual awards were awarded to Johan Crafford for Best General Manager, Mining and Jacques Krynauw for Best SHE Specialist, Mining.

Siguiri - Guinea achieved 2,405,385 million LTI free manhours on 30 June 2011.

Langer Heinrich - Namibia achieved 1,655,698 million LTI free manhours on 30 June 2011.

Zambia - KCM - Cop A achieved 1,293,274 million LTI free manhours on 30 June 2011.

Matla achieved huge success with 365 x 4 LTI free days.

Moolman Mining Botswana achieved 365 LTI free days on 3rd December 2011. The Phoenix team understands that yesterday's achievements are tomorrow's targets and therefore feel challenged to do better in 2012 and beyond.

Sept 2011 - Klipspruit BHP hosted its Site Achievement Awards where Sharon van der Bergh, Safety Manager at Smaldeel was awarded Gold for her excellent contribution in making Safety a priority for everyone. Total injuries from FY10 to FY11 came down from 7 to 4.

Etienne Le Roux was part of a team representing the South African Gold Coin Exchange on their adventure to summit Kilimanjaro.
